Slipped Away

Things I would have liked to acquire but lost the auction or missed for some reason.

This bird has come up twice in maybe 5 years. Goes for crazy money, like $500-$600.

Look at below collection (posted by Derek of FB Guinness Collectors page) – just amazing original adverts.

Loved this one, but got way outbid:

I’m in the market for one of these round O’hara’s Irish Craft Beer signs. If anyone knows where to get on, please let me know. I only saw it come up once, years ago, and I just fell asleep at the wheel and missed it.

I’d kill for one of these original porcelain Guinness signs. If anyone has one to sell, send a note. Someone had one up recently for $600 but then withdrew sale.

Wow, March 2021, look at this, similar sign on ebay sold at $800. If that’s the market price for these, I’m out. People are nuts.

The classic Guinness Seal lamp – Mar 21, this lamp sold for $996. It’s insane. (Tops, this lamp should go at ~$600. I found one at $450, but that was unusual.) 2nd one, posting Oct21, sold for $1138, which is incredible.

I want to know what this little gem is (turtle lamp)! – I saw it in someone’s pub (posted online) recently. Does anyone know source?  Update Jan 22: see my buying help page, I tell you how to get (and I bought one. Handmade, not cheap, but a work of art.)

Below, someone took the Guinness “Bayeux tapestry” tea-towel that comes up every so often, stained it to look old, put some wood dowels on it to make it look like a hanging, then sold for $77. Good for seller, buyer could have done better. I bought one for $25, roughly the going market price. Note – on the download page I do give you a FREE full size, high resolution, image of this advert to print out and frame.

Below, cardboard sign that just sold (Apr21). It’s unique, I’ve never seen before. I would have bought if price was somewhat reasonable, but it sold for a whopping $485!!! + shipping.

This was a nice little vintage piece I liked, but the bidding went beyond what I thought was reasonable ($264 + shipping).

I liked this Killarney jaunting car when I saw it, but it’s too big for a small home bar. If I had a commercial bar, it would make a cool seating area.

I always kind of liked these countdown clocks. They now are becoming increasing expensive. If you can get for less than $300, consider yourself extremely lucky. They come up maybe once ever few months. I just never pulled the trigger myself, something about the moving bright red numbers and plasticky frame I thought would just not look right in the space I have. I did just notice the are coming out in LED now, that’s an improvement. Update July21, an LED one came up for sale on FB mktplace for $125, so I bought it. I hung it but turned the lights off (they are very bright).

Something small (and not a lot of money), but was unique. Could have made a nice framed piece of “art.” Wish I pursued.

These toucans are somewhat new. Diageo Brands, who owns Guinness, has been distributing to liquor stores in the US for display. Count on paying something in the $150-$300 for one. I’ve only seen three of them come up in the past 2-3 years. Update Nov21, I bought one for $200.

Below, Oct21, sold for $407. Unique, and a beauty, but I would never pay this much for a small sign.

Not sure what below is (a Guinness Tree?) and/or if it is official merchandise, but I didn’t bid. Came up in Jan21.

These Guinness Beer bottle buses never really floated my boat. They used to come up often, but now you don’t really see them too much anymore. They are also considerably more expensive today. I think the ask was a few hundred bucks on the last one I saw.

Above are just recent misses. I wish I saved images of everything I shed a tear over losing. Will add more as things come and go. Here are a few more so you can get a sense of value:

This was a nice sign, sold for $400, but you had to pickup. Hopefully another will come up again.

This light below probably was produced in 2014 for their Brewer’s Project. I’ve never, ever, seen it come up…until just recently (Oct.22). Almost $200 was ask (which didn’t seem too bad), so I snagged it. Not vintage, but rare, and it’s become one of my favorite lighted signs. Good luck trying to find one for yourself – If you see one for less than $400, I suggest you grab it.

This Guinness flying toucan was an exterior decoration attached to a [closed in 2017] Irish Pub in New Zealand called Molly Malones. It was stolen, returned, and then auctioned by owners for charity. A few links on story & more pics, assuming they stay active:
